I have a modest collection of these books, 'niets helpt', a title from the 'ankertjes' series of self help booklets from the 1980s. 'niets helpt' translates to, 'nothing helps', 'nothing works', 'nothing gives solace', which I took to mean that there's nothing to alleviate the feeling of emptiness that haunts us all at times.
